Fox Chase Cancer Center is expanding its footprint outside Philadelphia with the opening of its first outpatient care complex, located at East Norriton’s Suburban Community Hospital, which was formerly Mercy Suburban Hospital.

The Philadelphia specialty hospital and research institution has formed a partnership with Suburban Community Hospital under which Fox Chase will take over the operation of an existing cancer center created on Suburban Community’s East Norriton campus four years ago, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

“We want to provide access to our care for patients throughout the entire metropolitan area,” said Dr. Richard Fisher, president and CEO of Fox Chase Cancer Center. “We wanted to find a space for patients north and west of us to have access to ambulatory care without having to come to Fox Chase.”

Fisher said the East Norriton site was an attractive opportunity because it provided an existing site that was being underutilized. “It’s a state-of-the art facility,” he said. “It just needed a faculty to run it, and a name to bring patients to the area.”

Under the partnership, Fox Chase will rent the facility from Suburban Community and keep the revenues generate by the services it provides at the site.
