Beyond debate over the “complicated” and “failing” health care system that is consuming much of the U.S. Senate’s time and attention these days, Sen. Pat Toomey highlighted what he sees as pressing issues for Chester County businesses in a visit to Communications Test Design Inc. in West Chester last week, according to a Daily Local News report by Bill Rettew Jr.

Chief among those issues affecting the economy is the prospect of comprehensive tax reform, which is hoped to be debated over the course of the remainder of the year.

“We ought to be competitive with the rest of the world,” said Toomey, who sides with fellow Republicans in proposing to slash the business tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent. “… It would give us the most competitive tax system in the world. I think the tax system is holding us back.”

Toomey also talked of imposing tougher sanctions on Russia and Iran, as well as making Medicaid sustainable by asking states to pay more.

“I’m very impressed with the detail,” said CTDI Chairman and CEO Gerry Parsons in the article. “He’s very knowledgeable and responsive to all the issues.”
