Dresher’s Ascensus, the independent retirement-plan bookkeeper now has $300M in yearly sales and 33% annual growth.

Ascensus, the independent retirement-plan bookkeeper for financial companies is maintaining its momentum with over $300 million in revenue and 33 percent in annual growth, writes Joseph N. DiStefano for Philly.com.

The firm, which now has around 2,000 employees, manages the retirement funds for nearly 50,000 employers with millions of grateful account holders.

Ascensus counts Vanguard Group, the mutual-fund giant from Malvern, among its clients, as well as states such as Illinois and Oregon which now have private-employer small retirement plans.

Currently, the company has around 650 at its headquarters in Dresher, Montgomery County with room for 200 more on site, said chief executive, Bob Guillocheau. Ascensus also now has offices in Arizona and Minnesota.

“Philadelphia’s a great place to have this business,” said Guillocheau. “You can do a lot of hiring out of the colleges.”

Also, unlike many other investment firms, Ascensus weathered the recent recession without needing to fire anyone. In fact, the company saw it as an opportunity to add staff from the large number of talented people that became available due to downsizing at other firms.

However, according to Guillocheau, the market is significantly tighter now, which “is a good thing for the broader economy.”
