The Abington and Hatboro YMCAs will soon merge to create a new $30 million facility in Upper Moreland which is planned for January 2019, writes Tyler Miles for The Intelligencer.

The incoming facility will have indoor and outdoor pools, an indoor track, and a gymnastics center. Child care areas will also be available at the new YMCA. Their old buildings will be sold.

“Our new building will be bigger than the two branches combined,” said Shaun Elliot, president and CEO of the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA Association.

The Abington building, which is over a century old, is around 65,000-square-feet, while the nearly seven decade old Hatboro building spans 30,000-square-feet. The new building at 3400 Davisville Road will cover over 100,000-square-feet on 40 acres.

The new site is convenient for members of both YMCA’s as it is two miles away from the Abington one and just one mile away from the Hatboro building. Once complete, it will be able to serve around 25,000 members.

“All staff in the two branches will be moving over to the new branch,” said Elliot. “We’ll need to hire a few more folks as well.”
