West Conshohocken’s ASTM International has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Foundation of Cannabis Unified Standards, according to a staff report from NCV Newswire.

Their agreement to develop standardization rules for the cannabis industry was signed ahead of a meeting of ASTM’s cannabis committee on June 11 and 12.

This will be part of a week-long event consisting of 25 committees and 1,500 attendees at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto.

“We look forward to participating in this fast-growing group and being able to use ASTM International standards to advance FOCUS certification services,” said Lezli Engelking, founder and president of FOCUS.

Under the agreement, which is effective immediately, ASTM will coordinate the process of developing the standards. This will allow FOCUS to shift its resources to other areas.

“FOCUS has played a groundbreaking role in driving standardization in the cannabis industry forward in the past several years,” said Ralph Paroli, chairman of the cannabis committee and director of R&D in measurement science and standards at the National Research Council of Canada.

“The work that FOCUS has done will be part of the foundation for the new committee.”
