Ricky Sayer, a student at Harrington High School in Lower Merion recently filmed school bus drivers driving through stop signs, writes Evie Blad for Education Week.

Sayer, who is planning to study journalism in college, produces a weekly video “Ricky Reports” which is broadcast throughout the school.

For his last report, he decided to focus on an issue that had been concerning him for some time, school bus drivers ignoring stop signs.

This report was particularly ironic as the district’s transportation team had just won an award for the safety of their busses. But the eagle-eyed young reporter was skeptical that this was actually the case.

To prove it, he hid in the bushes at the intersection near the exit of the school.

From there he was able to witness and record that 108 of 189 busses failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign.

After seeing the report, Lower Merion safety foreman, Richard Segal, told Sayer that drivers have been made “aware of this deviation from correct procedures.”

The district has also asked Sayer for his footage to help train drivers in the future.
