Fort Washington’s Westrum Development Company is hoping to tap into the high-income millennial home market by building 189 luxury apartments in West Chester area, writes Bill Rettew Jr. for Daily Local News.

The planned development would be located at the Agway hardware store site at 956 S. Matlack Street. However, for the project to be approved, the site would have to be rezoned to residential.

Westrum’s owner, John Westrum along with his team, presented the $30 million project at last week’s board of supervisor meeting to show that his development would be the best use for the property.

As part of the project, the builder would also finance improvements on Route 202. These would include adding more lanes and improving traffic signals.

“For residents already living there, it will be a much better traffic flow than now,” said Supervisor Christopher Pielli.

The proposed apartments, most of them one-bedroom, would be rented for $1,300 to $2,000 per month. The development would also include a fitness center, BYOB bar, a game center, and yoga stations.

“We believe that by doing what we’re proposing, we’re doing something better for the public,” said Westrum.
